Movie Review: “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans”

11 Jun

Many agree that one of the most highly-regarded foreign directors working today is Werner Herzog. He has created over sixteen feature films (not including shorts or documentaries) for over forty years with much critical success. When Herzog announced Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans with Nicholas Cage playing the main character, many people were ecstatic by the news. The idea of watching Cage playing a dark role again like in Leaving Las Vegas was a good enough reason for people to go see it. However, did it live up to everyone’s expectations? (more…)

Movie Review: “Sherlock Holmes”

8 Jun

The summer of 2008 was without a doubt the summer of Robert Downey, Jr. With his successful performances in Jon Favreau’s Iron Man and Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder, he had the ability to pick from a wide variety of projects for his follow-up performance. He eventually decided to star in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. Initially, Ritchie didn’t want Robert Downey, Jr. as Sherlock Holmes because he felt he was too old for the role. However once he met with Downey, Ritchie knew he would be perfect. There was a lot of anticipation from the public for Sherlock Holmes since they wanted to see if Robert Downey, Jr.’s comeback was here to stay or drift away from the limelight. Did it live up to the expectations to at least this blogger? Make the jump to find out.

Public Service Announcement #2

5 Jun

I just wanted to provide a quick Public Service Announcement for the lack on content the past week or so on …Where The Buffalo Roam. While I did survive the remaining weeks at school, I now shifted my time back to work as a lifeguard for the summer. On top of work, I also got my wisdom teeth pulled out and haven’t been exactly motivated in finishing up my reviews. One of those reviews is Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes that I will have ready in the next couple days (promise!). I’m also working on coming up with a more consistent schedule of posting new content, which I’ve been struggling with since the formation of the blog. Figured that you (the readers) have the right to know what’s going on and I do apologize. Along with Sherlock Holmes, I will also have a review for Barry Levinson’s You Don’t Know Jack and Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans in the next week or so.

Movie Review: “Coraline”

23 May

Animation films have truly made a bold step in the past couple years. Many animated films are challenging the social notion that it can appeal to all ages and not just for children. Last year was a perfect case with such films as Up and Fantastic Mr. Fox. One film in particular that proved this notion was Henry Selick’s Coraline. (more…)

Movie Review: “Iron Man 2″

17 May

One of the most anticipated films this year was Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2. The first film was a financial and critical success and contributed to the rejuvenation of Robert Downey, Junior’s career. With a bigger film budget, the sequel promised to take the franchise to a new level. With the competitive summer film season officially underway, will Iron Man 2 have the same success with the audience as its predecessor?

Movie Review: “Kick-Ass”

14 May

One of the most talked-about films this year is Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass. With big names attached to the cast like Mark Strong and Nicolas Cage, there was a lot of anticipation leading up to its theatrical release date. The development of the film took an unconventional approach by actually working alongside with the development of the comic book series that the film is based off of.

Community: “10 Movie Facts About Me”

10 May

After weeks of much anticipation, I am finally ready to unveil my “10 Movie Facts About Me.” All sarcasm aside, I’m finally done with school and was able to finally sit down and work on some new material for the blog. Since I am behind the curve on this meme, I decided not to pick ten more people to continue it since the majority people I know already completed it. Once again thanks to Ruth at Flixchatter and Marshall at Marshall and the Movies for nominating me to continue on this meme. Without a further a due, here is what I came up with.

Movie Review: “Crazy Heart”

There are many actors and actresses in Hollywood who you can’t help but admire on and off the screen due to their personal traits. One of the actors, in my opinion, who shares this characteristic is none other than Jeff Bridges. He has been working in Hollywood for over forty years and starring in such films as Terry Gilliam’s The Fisher King, Grant Heslov’s The Men Who Stare at Goats, and Joel and Ethan Coen’s The Big Lebowski. When he conducts interviews, he comes off as the most down-to-earth and likable person in my opinion.  Throughout his career, he was nominated for and lost an Academy Award four times. However, at the 82nd Academy Awards, he was nominated for a fifth time and won Best Actor for his role as Bad Blake in Scott Cooper’s Crazy Heart. (more…)

Public Service Announcement #1

24 Apr

I wanted to quickly inform everyone about my current situation about why I haven’t been posting any new content or commenting on other blogs. I’ve just been extremely busy with papers and studying for upcoming exams since the end of the Spring Semester is coming up. I’m not going on hiatus, but my main focus right now is my school work and not the blog. Once I have free time I will post new content.

I also want to apologize to both Ruth at Flixchatter and Marshall at Marshall at the Movies for not getting to the “10 Movie Facts about Me” yet. Both of you chose me to continue the meme and I haven’t had the chance to write it. When I have free time, that will be the first thing I’ll post :) . Like I said, figured I would inform everyone and not to worry or anything.
